In depth

The Secretariat issued the Resolution to enhance existing regulations on consumer protection and fair trade. It mandates that consumers be provided with clear, truthful, and detailed information about the essential characteristics of goods and services and their conditions of commercialization.

The Resolution introduces new rules on the display of prices for end consumers as follows:

  • Prices must be displayed in Argentine pesos. They may also be shown in US dollars or other foreign currencies, but must always reflect the total and final amount to be paid by the consumer.
  • From 1 April 2025, the net amount, excluding VAT and other national indirect taxes, must be displayed along with the text "PRECIO SIN IMPUESTOS NACIONALES" (Spanish for "PRICE WITHOUT NATIONAL TAXES"). This information must be shown in smaller typographic characters than those used for the final price. This requirement applies to price displays in stores and in advertisements issued by any means.
  • The selling price per unit of measure must be indicated in smaller typographic characters than those used for the display of the final price.
  • Businesses that offer services directly to the public and are operating from, to, or within foreign countries, may comply with the Resolution by displaying and advertising their prices in US dollars.

Finally, the Resolution repeals Resolution Nos. 7/2002 and 55/2002, as amended.

The Resolution became effective on 18 January 2025.
