It will be two years in September since the Morrison government's announcement of the AUKUS security partnership.
As planning for the Australian nuclear-powered submarine program progresses, it has become apparent that the legislative frameworks of participating AUKUS nations will require adjustments to facilitate the program's implementation, including the smooth transition of technology.
In this edition, we look at the various legislative and regulatory developments that have been tabled in the last few months, both locally and in the US, to support the implementation of AUKUS and novel information sharing between the parties. Defence procurement practices also remain in focus with the Joint Committee of Public Account and Audit making recommendations to improve public service procurement standards.
