It's now almost ten months since the government published the draft Employment Rights Bill, its flagship legislation intended to implement key aspects of its employment rights and industrial relations policies. In the interim, we have seen the first tranche of consultation exercises on specific aspects of the Bill, with several more announced. The iterative nature of the process has made it challenging for employers to keep track of the Bill's progress and the steps that are needed to prepare for full implementation.
This article includes a reminder of the Bill's key provisions and explains their current status and timelines, as well as what organisations could or should be doing now to prepare. For completeness, we also mention some recent developments from the House of Lords that, ultimately, are highly unlikely to progress, as they do not align with government policy.
