Welcome to the November edition of Nexus, the monthly publication from Baker McKenzie's UK Japan Connect. If you missed out on any of our earlier editions, you can read them here.
Highlights this month include William Swan – Counsel in Baker McKenzie's Restructuring and Insolvency team – sharing his insights, from his time working in Tokyo, of the unique challenges found within the Japanese restructuring market, the contrasts with the English regime and his observations on where the market may be headed. We also have some interesting analysis to share from Takahashi Okabe of Control Risks – the specialist risk consultancy – on recent political developments in Japan following last month's general election.
We would also like to take this opportunity, following the recent announcement that UKJC is to host its Tokyo launch party at the British Embassy on 29 January 2025, to share with our readers another exciting event in our calendar. On the morning of 12 February 2025, UKJC will host a breakfast seminar with the Rt Hon Greg Clark at Baker McKenzie's London office. As a former cabinet minister, select committee chair, Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Japan and incoming chair of the Japan Society, Greg is sure to offer fascinating insights on UK-Japan relations. Do look out for more information from us on this shortly, including on how to register your attendance and on how our Japanese audience may live stream the event.
As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions for future topics and features. Please contact us through the usual channels with any comments or questions. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at our events.
