New generation capacity overview
The Energy Commission is currently inviting interested participants to submit their proposals for either of the following categories:
- Category 1 (Existing facility/additional capacity):
- For existing gas power plants whose concessions have or will expire between 2025 and 2029. Interested participants may submit proposals for an extension to their concession period.
- Interested participants may submit proposals for addition of capacity to existing gas power plants.
- Category 2 (New generation capacity):
- Interested participants may submit proposals for the development of new gas power plants.
The request for proposal (RFP) document is available for purchase at RM 10,000 per RFP starting from 13 May 2025 until 20 May 2025. More information on obtaining the RFP can be found on the Energy Commission's website but note that the information is in Bahasa Malaysia.
Complete tender bid documents must be physically submitted and received by the Energy Commission no later than 16 June 2025, at 12:00 pm for Category 1 and 14 July 2025, at 12:00 pm for Category 2.
Remark
The RFP represents a rare opportunity for the development of new gas power plants in Malaysia, as the country moves towards heavier reliance on renewable energy, to ensure the sufficiency and stability of continuous energy supply.
