This Practice Direction is issued pursuant to Rule 6(1) of the Intellectual Property (Filing and Information Service) Rules 2022 and applies with effect from 27 August 2025.
It sets out the procedures and requirements for filings made through the EOS and alternative modes (such as in-person or by post), including specifications for document format and submission. It also provides guidance on the following, among other points:
- The steps to be followed when seeking to amend or correct documents filed in relation to patent matters
- For registered designs, stricter standards for image clarity, file formats, and the use of visual disclaimers (e.g., broken lines, shading, blurring)
- Trade mark and geographical indication filings must meet specific image quality and size standards
