On 19 December 2024, the Ministry of Economy published in the Evening Edition of the Federal Official Gazette a Decree amending the tariffs of the General Import and Export Tax Law and the Decree for the Promotion of the Manufacturing, Maquiladora and Export Services Industry ("Decree").
By means of the Decree, the Mexican government amends the Tariff of the Law of General Import and Export Taxes (TIGIE) and the Decree for the Promotion of the Manufacturing, Maquiladora and Export Services Industry ("IMMEX Decree"), in order to establish a temporary tariff of 35% on imports of goods classified in 138 tariff classifications related to apparel and 15% on imports of goods classified in 17 tariff classifications related to the textile industry.
Also, the Decree amends the IMMEX Decree to modify Annex II, which includes sensitive goods that must meet specific requirements to be temporarily imported under the IMMEX program, and to move more than 300 tariff classifications classifying various goods corresponding to the textile and apparel industry to Annex I, which includes goods that cannot be temporarily imported under the IMMEX program.
The aforementioned amendments became effective as of 20 December 2024 and with respect to temporary tariffs, will be in effect until 23 April 2026.
