Thailand: Upcoming changes to increase maximum wage base for calculation of Social Security Fund contributions starting from January 2026

In brief

Starting from 1 January 2026, a maximum wage rate used as a base for calculating Social Security Fund (SSF) contributions will be increased to THB 17,500. As a result, the maximum SSF monthly contribution amounts for both the employer and employee will be increased to THB 875. Employers should ensure to correctly deduct these contributions from the employee’s wage and remit them to the SSF accordingly.

In more detail

Currently, employees and employers are required to make monthly contributions to the SSF at a rate of 5% of the employee’s wage, which is capped at THB 15,000 for contribution calculation purposes. This cap has remained unchanged for over 30 years, since 1995.

To align with the current economic conditions and to increase the cashflow of the SSF, the Ministerial Regulation Prescribing the Minimum and Maximum Wage Rate for Calculating the Social Security Fund Contributions of an Insured Person under Section 33 B.E. 2568 (2025) (“Ministerial Regulation”) will increase the capped amount of the employee’s wage for the purpose of SSF contribution calculations in three phases, as follows:

(1) From 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028 - the maximum wage rate will be THB 17,500.

(2) From 1 January 2029 to 31 December 2031 - the maximum wage rate will be THB 20,000.

(3) From 1 January 2032 onwards - the maximum wage rate will be THB 23,000.

Such increase shall effectively increase SSF monthly contribution amounts for both the employer and employee from THB 750 to THB 875 (from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028), THB 1,000 (from 1 January 2029 to 31 December 2031) and THB 1,150 (from 1 January 2032 onwards).

Therefore, employers should ensure to correctly deduct these contributions from the employee’s wage and remit them to the SSF accordingly, as well as informing the employee of the change.
