United Kingdom: Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules

In brief

On 9 March 2023, the Home Office published the Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules and in particular, significant changes to the minimum salary requirement for Skilled Worker and Global Business Mobility routes.

Key changes

Skilled Worker:

  • Minimum salary has been increased from GBP 25,600 to GBP 26,200. The minimum salary for shortage occupation or relevant PhD role has also increased from GBP 20,480 to GBP 20,960. This change takes effect from 12 April 2023 
  • There are number of changes to occupation codes and the going rates. This change takes effect from 12 April 2023

Global Business Mobility:

  • Minimum salary has been increased from GBP 42,400 to GBP 45,800. This change takes effect from 12 April 2023
  • There are number of changes to occupation codes and the going rates. This change takes effect from 12 April 2023

Youth Mobility Scheme:

  • Age for applicants has been changed from 18 - 30 to 18 - 35 for some nationalities. This change takes effect from 29 June 2023
  • Duration of visa has changed from two years to three years for some nationalities. This change takes effect from 29 June 2023

Applications submitted before 12 April 2023 will be processed under the previous Immigration Rules. This means that where an applicant's salary is unlikely to meet the new salary requirement, they should file the application before 12 April 2023.
