On 27 May 2022, Singapore's first resolution Strengthening Health Emergency Preparedness and Response in Cities and Urban Settings (the "Resolution") was adopted at the 75th World Health Assembly (WHA).
The Resolution urges the World Health Organisation's (WHO) member states to strengthen health emergency preparedness and response in cities.
Cities and urban areas have unique vulnerabilities in health emergency situations. The adoption of the Resolution signals clear recognition by the WHO of the importance of being prepared for health emergency situations, especially from the momentum of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The adoption of the Resolution is consistent with WHO's more general efforts in strengthening health emergency preparedness in cities and urban settings, where it released a framework document in 2021.
