Key enhancements to digital platforms
IPOS has rolled out several new features on its IPOD Digital Hub and IPOS Go mobile app, reinforcing its commitment to user-friendly and mobile-first digital services. Notable updates include the following:
- Trademarks Classification Recommender (launched January 2024), which helps applicants classify goods and services accurately
- Dashboard (Beta) and Deadlines Tracker (Beta) (launched December 2024), which provides users with an overview of their IP portfolios and helps manage application timelines effectively
Trademark filing, renewals, ownership transfer, and licensing actions can all be handled online, with user-friendly interfaces and a five-step mobile filing journey that takes less than 10 minutes.
Strengthened dispute resolution and support
IPOS continues to encourage mediation as a preferred method of resolving trademark disputes. Parties can access funding of up to S$14,000 under the Enhanced Mediation Promotion Scheme (REMPS). The WIPO-Singapore ASEAN Mediation Programme has transitioned to AMP+, expanding mediator options across ASEAN.
While IPOS does not currently offer brand financing, its Intangibles Disclosure Framework helps businesses better present and value their intangible assets. A curated list of expert IP valuers is also available for dispute resolution support.
Public engagement and research
IPOS actively promotes IP awareness through social media and events like World IP Day and IP Week @ SG. It also collaborates on public events to reach creators, entrepreneurs and the general public. Research-wise, IPOS continues to publish insightful studies, including reports on green trademarks, women entrepreneurs, and the link between IP and company performance.
Regional and International Collaboration
IPOS plays a key role in regional initiatives such as ASEAN Patent Examination co-operation (ASPEC) and helps maintain the ASEAN IP Portal. It also engages in knowledge sharing exchanges with other IP offices globally to enhance practices and develop future-ready digital solutions.
Key takeaway
IPOS is a global frontrunner in non-core-IP services, consistently ranking among the top three IP offices worldwide. It is evidently future-proofing IP services through a growing mobile ecosystem to set the stage for potential automation of portfolio management, expanding the blueprint for IP dispute resolution across ASEAN, and potentially paving the way for greater financial recognition of IP in capital markets.
