International: European Union Deforestation Regulation – Key updates published at the same time as the 12 month delay proposal

On 2 October 2024, after months of debate regarding its readiness, the EU Commission announced a proposal for a further 12 months of "phasing-in" time for the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation ("EUDR") (see press release here). There were several other key developments and updates announced at the same time, which have potentially been overshadowed by the delay proposal, including the eagerly anticipated EUDR guidelines and updated FAQ. In this alert we consider further some of the key clarifications provided by these documents, as well as various other aspects of the Commission's announcement.
