Philippines: Reminder — 10 July 2023 deadline for DPO and DPS registration with the National Privacy Commission

The deadline for DPO and DPS registrations is fast approaching. Covered personal information controllers and personal information processors are urged to timely comply with this requirement.

In brief

Personal Information Controllers (PICs) and Personal Information Processors (PIPs) that are covered by the registration requirement under NPC Circular No. 2022-04 have until 10 July 2023 to register their respective Data Protection Officers (DPOs) and Data Processing Systems (DPS) with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) through the latter's online registration portal, which can be accessed here.

Similarly, PICs and PIPs that are operating in the Philippines, but do not fall within the mandatory registration threshold, are also required to submit their respective sworn declarations to the NPC by email here by 10 July 2023, unless they opt for voluntary registration.

Finally, please note that while NPC Circular No. 2023-01, which outlines the NPC's fee schedule for its various services (i.e., registration fees), has already taken effect, the same has not yet been implemented at the time of this alert. We are closely monitoring this matter and will provide further updates in due course. In the meantime, please feel free to check our previous client alert for additional information here: Philippines: National Privacy Commission announces schedule of fees.
