Key takeaways
- The HSA is not only active in its surveillance in Singapore, but also looks to the actions of regulators in other countries.
- Sellers and suppliers of health products in Singapore should note that anyone who supplies in Singapore health products that are adulterated or counterfeit may face a fine of up to SGD 100,000 and/or imprisonment of up to three years.
In more detail
The HSA published a list of products that were found by overseas regulators to contain potent ingredients, such as mercury; tadalafil; isobutyl nitrite; yohimbe; etc.
In the update, the HSA also set out the possible side effects of such potent ingredients, along with an advisory to the public to emphasise caution when dealing with the listed health products and with health products in general.
The overseas regulators range from those in Asia (e.g., Malaysia, Hong Kong) to Canada and the United States. This shows that the HSA not only surveils health products within Singapore, but also considers the actions of overseas regulators in its enforcement.
